Caring for Your Canvas

Your tattoo is more than ink—it’s a piece of art that requires nurturing. Proper aftercare prevents infection, maintains color brilliance, and ensures your tattoo stays as stunning as the day it was created.

Remember, each person’s healing journey is unique. Factors like tattoo size, location, and your skin type can affect recovery. When in doubt, reach out to your artist or a healthcare professional.

Healing Timeline

Days 1-3: The First Steps

Your new tattoo is a fresh canvas in need of gentle care. Keep the bandage on for the recommended duration (typically 2-24 hours). Once removed, gently cleanse your tattoo with a mild, fragrance-free soap, pat it dry with a clean towel, and apply a light layer of aftercare ointment.

  • Wash your hands thoroughly before touching your tattoo
  • Use lukewarm water – avoid hot water
  • Pat dry carefully with a clean towel
  • Apply ointment 3-5 times a day for best results

Days 4-6: Scabbing & Soothing

During this phase, your tattoo will start to form scabs and may feel itchy. This is a normal part of the healing process. Continue to cleanse and moisturize regularly, and avoid scratching or picking at the scabs to preserve the integrity of your tattoo.

  • Switch from ointment to a gentle, unscented lotion
  • Moisturize frequently to soothe the skin
  • Tap or lightly press if it feels itchy, rather than scratching
  • Wear loose clothing to minimize irritation

Days 7-14: Gentle Peeling

Your tattoo will begin to peel naturally, much like a mild sunburn. This peeling is a normal and healthy part of the healing process. Keep moisturizing and avoid picking at the skin to ensure your tattoo retains its vivid colors.

  • Allow the peeling skin to shed naturally
  • Apply lotion 2-3 times daily to keep the area hydrated
  • Avoid swimming, hot tubs, or prolonged baths during this period
  • Shield your tattoo from direct sunlight

Days 15-30: Final Healing

In this final phase, your tattoo may look a bit dull or cloudy as the skin continues to renew beneath the surface. Continue to moisturize until your skin returns to its normal texture. Remember, your tattoo is still healing even if it appears fully recovered on the outside.

  • Moisturize daily to support skin recovery
  • Apply sunscreen (SPF 50+) when your tattoo is exposed to sunlight
  • Avoid tanning beds as they can affect healing
  • Schedule a touch-up after full healing if needed

Long-term Tattoo Care

Sun Protection

UV rays are the leading cause of tattoo fading. Always use SPF 50+ sunscreen on your tattoo—even on cloudy days—and cover with clothing during prolonged sun exposure.

Moisturizing

Keep your tattoo hydrated with a quality, fragrance-free lotion. Well-hydrated skin not only enhances the tattoo's vibrancy but also supports overall healing.

Even with proper care, tattoos can fade over time. Our touch-up services are available to refresh your ink and ensure it remains a timeless work of art.
